TROOPER MICHAEL JOYCE
Here is a medal group for a soldier in the post war army.

This group comprises,
from the left :

Trooper Joyce's medals

  • The Korean War Medal
  • the United Nations Medal with KOREA bar
  • and the General Service Medal with the bar MALAYA
The General Service medal covers the period 1918-1964 but bears a relief of the appropriate reigning monarch's profile.

So what do we know about Trooper Joyce?

In particular which regiment did he serve with?
Trooper Joyce's Certificate of Serice booklet The answer should be found in his Certificate of Service but in this case all it says is RAC - Royal Armoured Corps

Inside this booklet there is a list of Joyce's postings which show that he was in Korea from January to December 1953 and Singapore from then until May 1954.

Since these dates and locations do not match with the movements of any single regiment it would appear that Trooper Joyce served on administrative duties and was never a permanent member of any regiment.

Any photographs with a reference number can be purchased from the Tank Museum shop.
