For
Valour: Medals at The Tank Museum |
"Bullecourt, May 3rd
1917
During the action his tank was riddled with armour-piercing
bullets, which wounded himself and four of his crew and knocked
out five Lewis guns. Unable to work his tank any longer, he
withdrew his crew to shell-holes under heavy fire and himself
covered the retirement of these men to the rallying point." |
| Military Cross citation for Lt. Tom Westbrook,

This story, along with many others, features in a new
permanent exhibition at The Tank Museum which opened in
July 2004. The exhibition aims to change the way
in which medals are displayed and interpreted by allowing
visitors much greater access to the collection and encouraging
a deeper understanding of why medals are awarded.

It is hoped that the exhibition will change and grow as
new medals are donated to the Museum and more research is
carried out into the collection.
If you have information relating to any of the medals on
display at the Museum please
the Curator.
