Tales of valour
CHICK Herbert Robert, (Temporary Lieutenant, Acting Captain)
16th Battalion, Tank Corps
For Gallantry and devotion to duty on October 17th 1918 at Cvaux-Andigny. This officer was in command of a section of tanks, and owing to the fog and other reasons that made the situation unclear, found himself in action earlier than was expected. He personally led his tanks into action under heavy shell and machine gun fire, and at great personal risk and regardless of danger, kept them on their proper course and indicated to each one what points to attack. He at the same time took charge of the infantry in his particular area of operations, showing them where to go and generally assisting them in a marked degree. His fine conduct and example without regard for personal safety are well worthy of recognition.
