Tales of valour
DOWSE G, (Gunner)
“F” Battalion Tank Corps
At Ypres, on July 31st 1917, by exceedingly clever and cool driving, he got his tank over very wet and crumped ground to Border House, his objective. Later, after his officer was wounded and his NCO was attending to him outside the tank, the Germans advanced to attack the tank. He turned on a Lewis gun at once and kept on firing until he collapsed; the enemy were dispersed and later surrendered.
