Tales of valour
HAWGOOD A A, (Private)
“B” Battalion Tank Corps
This soldier on November 21st 1917, in the village of Cantaing, after fighting his gun with great determination, was wounded in six places and was laid down on the floor of the tank, and while in this position the tank stopped through mechanical trouble. Although badly wounded and suffering great pain, he managed to reach the magneto, which was the cause of the trouble, and this enabled the tank to proceed to its objective and inflict further casualties on the enemy.
The gallantry and devotion to duty of this man set a splendid example to the rest of the crew.
