Tales of valour
TILFORD Albert, (Acting Squadron Quarter Master Sergeant)
8th Royal Tank Regiment
During the morning of June 3rd 1942, at Eluet et Tamar this NCO was the extreme right flank tank. By his clever use of ground and his exceptionally accurate fire, he successfully held this flank against 11th/12th enemy tanks and anti-tank guns (including two 88 mm) his own fire eventually causing them to retire.
Later during the same day whilst withdrawing, in spite of no wireless communication and his tank being repeatedly hit, he maintained perfect formation and gave his troop leader his utmost support during the withdrawal.
In this and other actions he has shown courage, determination, initiative and great coolness.
