The Order of St. John
Queen Victoria by Royal Charter incorporated the Order in the United Kingdom in 1888. The Order and not the Sovereign or the Crown awards the insignia. The Queen is however the Sovereign Head of the Order. There are now six classes open to both men and women.
It is principally concerned with hospital and ambulance work.
Breast Star : An eight-pointed Maltese cross in white enamel with lions and unicorns between the arms.
Neck badge : An eight pointed Maltese cross in white enamel with lions and unicorns between the arms. In gold or silver according to rank.
The ribbon is plain black watered silk of differing widths according to rank.
