Egypt Medal 1882-1889

Following the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 British involvement in the area increased, many British officers being seconded to the Khedive's Army. Operations in the area included Sudan and the siege of Khartoum and campaigns aimed at the overthrow of the Mahdi.

The obverse shows the veiled profile of Queen Victoria and the reverse has the sphinx with 'EGYPT' and, on some versions, the date.

The ribbon has three blue and two white stripes.
