Release issued: 21st October 2005 |
|
| An
award winning criminal justice partnership has
commended Community Service Workers who have achieved
qualifications whilst serving their sentences. |
"The Tank Museum, Weymouth College and the
Dorset Probation Service have given offenders
the opportunity to achieve commercially recognised
awards in engineering, English and maths"
said Mike Mathews, Deputy Unit Manager of The
Dorset Probation Service. "The partnership
has been of great benefit to the Museum in securing
them 1800 hours of free labour. Offenders have
been benefiting from these experiences and tuition
from Weymouth College, which is allowing some
to gain employment for the first time in years."
South Dorset MP Jim Knight presented certificates
to those who have completed the courses whilst
serving their Community Service Orders at The
Tank Museum.
He said; "It is excellent to see the partnership
working so well for the good of the community"
Some of the work completed by Community Service
Workers, who come from all over Dorset, was on
display. The work included a fully restored
432 Armoured Personnel Carrier, and an M548 Cargo
Carrier.
Both of these vehicles are now part of the
Museum's `running fleet`, and are put to use in
live action displays during the busy holiday periods. |
