POOR WEATHER MEANS
GOOD SUMMER FOR TANK MUSEUM

The Tank
Museum is thanking poor August weather for a bumper
summer season.
In contrast to many seasonal businesses elsewhere, income
is up 43% on the same period last year, and visitors
in August increased by 4000 compared with August
2003 - an increase of 14.3%.
Public Services Manager David Butt said; "Like
many organisations in South Dorset, the summer season
can make or break our year. What makes us different
is that we are an indoor attraction - and we
always hope for rain!
"Many other attractions and businesses count on
good weather to boost their summer figures, and in the
same way, a long hot summer can be a disaster for
us." |

The news is of great
encouragement to the Dorset Charity, who are currently
awaiting the outcome of a major bid for lottery money.
Curator David Willey said; "A poor August may not
be good news for tourists - but it is good news for
us, as the boost in income means that we will able
to invest more than we had expected into the conservation
of our designated and globally admired collection."
