| Volunteers
donated 10,076 hours of their time to The Tank Museum
over the last year - that is the equivalent of 1 member
of staff working full time for five years. |
Now, with the busy summer season on its way, the Museum is keen to recruit even more volunteers – whose efforts are worth an estimated £73,500 a year to the Dorset charity.
Volunteer coordinator Louise Dennis
said; "I would like to thank all those
who have kindly given up their time for us
over the last year, and encourage more local people
to get involved."
"There are a range of ways people can help.
There are several departments that would welcome extra
assistance and a variety of different roles
available within each.
"These range from research in our library;
transcribing documents, and cataloguing artefacts to
more customer service oriented roles such as patrolling
and working on the museum floor with our visitors.
"For those who have had experience working with
young people, there are also opportunities to work in
our education department (subject to
CRB check).
"Volunteers are also welcome to assist with the
day-to-day administration of the Museum,
and in the maintenance of the site and facilities.
Extra pairs of hands are always required during special
events held at the museum, such as TANKFEST
and the popular Tank Experience Days.
For those whose mechanical knowledge may benefit the
Museum, the Workshops can be a satisfying
place to give your time - but it can be just as rewarding
donning rubber gloves in the Museum cafeteria!
"Ideally, we are looking for people who
can give their time during the week – so it is
a great opportunity for retired people to play an important
role in the life of Dorset’s most prominent museum."
