The ashes of a much loved and long serving volunteer who died in 2005 were scattered during a special memorial service at The Tank Museum. |
Relatives of World War Two Royal Tank Regiment veteran and Tank Museum Friend Harry Webb were joined by Tank Museum staff at the service which took place at the Royal Tank Regiment memorial outside the Museum.
Harry sadly died in August 2005 following a long and brave battle against Cancer. Harry was a familiar face and well respected volunteer at the Museum, where he was especially popular in the workshop having been an active Museum Friend for the last 20 years.
Following the memorial service, the Museum’s Sherman tank that Harry had driven and helped maintain with fellow Friend and World War Two Veteran Ron Huggins, was officially renamed `Harry & Ron` in a fitting tribute by workshop staff.
In honour of the long serving volunteers, a brass plate has been placed on each side of the reliable 60 year old tank – one reading `Harry`, the other `Ron`. Ron, who will be 86 this year, was unable to attend the memorial service due to illness. |
