For one night only, the clattering din of tanks is being replaced by the sweet strains of Opera at The Tank Museum.
National Touring Company Hatstand Opera, specialists in performing at `unusual` venues across the country are returning to The Tank Museum for a very special performance on Thursday 23rd March.
Kirsty Young, Director of Hatstand Opera explained what the audience can look forward to as they perform `Opera Can Be Murder`; “With tongues firmly in our cheeks, we will be looking at how Opera dispatches its heroes and villains. You will see heroines meeting their Maker still singing flat out, and bodies that revive at the crucial moment for top notes! All is revealed, in the best possible taste and with heaps of humour.”
The show was put together following an internet poll to find out which `dying moments` opera fans enjoyed the most. Hundreds of enthusiasts across the world took part – and the results will be on display during the performance!
Last year Hatstand performed `Tanks, Tantrums an Tiara’s` at the Museum, demonstrating their speciality in creating `highlight` performances that offer something for everyone.
Kirsty added; “Our shows are like the weather; if you don't like it now, wait five minutes and it will change. Most extracts are sung in English, including at least two popular 'pot-boilers' and something really unusual for the buffs. No need for subtitles either as I, as compare, will introduce who is singing what, when, and most importantly, why!”
Opera Can Be Murder takes place at The Tank Museum on Thursday 23rd March at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £12 for adults, £8 for students and under 16’s.
