The three men, all members of the Royal Wessex Yeomanry based at Bovington Camp, will be cycling 500kms in ten days from Saigon in Vietnam to Siem Reap in Cambodia on behalf of Breast cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Andy Clark, group spokesman said; “We are all looking forward to the challenge in November, and the trial run went very well. We covered the 49 miles in just 5 hours, which is very encouraging.
“We arrived at The Tank Museum at The Tank Museum just before a Tanks In Action display, and the audience were very supportive – donating £340 to us which was an unexpected but welcome surprise.”
Andy and another member of the team, Steve Cullen, have previously raised £10,000 for a bowel Caner Charity walking parts of the Great Wall of China, and is hoping that this year his team will be able to raise even more.
“A neighbour of mine has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and within a very short time she had a double mastectomy. It’s a terrible disease, and this is what spurred us into action.
Tank Museum spokesman Nik Wyness said; “We often hear about the exploits of the army on the news and in the papers, but few people are aware of the enormous amount of charity work that goes on. This is an impressive challenge, and I hope they will be well supported by the public.”
