New R.A.C Memorial Unveiled

14th November 2008


A war memorial commemorating soldiers of the Household Cavalry and Royal Armoured Corps who have died on active service since 1945 was unveiled and dedicated at The Tank Museum.

Relatives of those commemorated on the memorial, veterans and Regimental Colonels, including the Duke of Westminster, gathered at The Tank Museum for the Rememberance Day service which took place outside the Museums new entrance. The ceremony was based around a Drum Head Service and led by the garrison padre, with music provided by the Light Cavalry Band.

BBC Remembrance Success

November 2008 marked the 90th anniversary of the end of World War One and The Tank Museum hosted a free commemoration event in association with the BBC on Saturday 8th November as part of a BBC wide commemoration campaign.

BBC South used The Tank Museum as its base for the remembrance campaign that brought World War One alive to the present generation by encouraging individuals and families to look into their own relatives Great War Stories.

Tank Times Issue 3 Published

Tank Times Issue 3 Published. The third issue of The Tank Museum's free newsletter is now available to subscribers.

This autumn issue contains all the latest news events and happenings at The Tank Museum, and a fascinating feature on Cecil Sewell VC. Tank Times is currently published three times a year and sent free of charge to subscribers.

New Build Complete

A major milestone in the £16 million Tank Museum redevelopment project has been reached, with the completion of building work on site.

The new 5000sqm2 display hall, new reception, gift shop, visitor facilities and restaurant was completed and handed over to the Museum last week.

Excerpts from real stories from British, German, American and Japanese soldiers who fought in tanks, will personalise his account of armoured warfare in the major conflicts of history.

70th Anniversary of The Royal Armoured Corps

In 1939, just months before the outbreak of war, the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) was founded to increase the efficiency with which the British armoured regiments were administered. 70 years on and several conflicts later, The Tank Museum (The RAC’s Museum) is marking this occasion with a special day off displays, activities, and a preview of a major new exhibition… `The Tank Story`.
