Work on the Tiger Engine

Due to some essential routine maintenance work, a rare opportunity has presented itself for a chance to assist with the removal of Tiger 131's engine. This will be a physically active day.


Date of Experience: Monday 21 November 2016
Location: Tank Museum Workshops
Age & Height Limit: Must be 17 or over, and at least 1.4m (4ft 6inches) tall.
Participant Requirements: Must have mechanical knowledge, ie. have fixed a bike or car
Cost: £395 per person – 2 spaces – first come first served

Programme
8.30am      
Breakfast in the Museum Restaurant, meet Workshop Manager. Health and Safety Brief. Supplied with PPE, Coveralls etc.

9.00am       
Head to workshop for a short talk on the vehicle, explain the days’ timetable.
This will include:
First Person – Inside the tank undoing selected nuts and bolts, then placing in containers and marking source.
Second Person – On the rear deck and ground level taking off exhaust pipes, armour, drain coolant, disconnect water pipes etc. and marking.

12.00pm        
Lunch in Museum Restaurant with Tiger Tank Team. 

1.00pm     
Return to the workshop, swap morning roles and continue.

2.00pm
Engine Lift (weather dependant).

This will take place until 3:00pm, with a break for tea & cake. If the engine cannot be removed then further work will continue on it. The museum will not rush the job. The offer will be provided to return the next day to witness the engine lift should unforeseeable circumstances mean the engine cannot be lifted on the experience day.

Tea and cakes with workshop staff.

4.00pm
Closer look at the German Storage Container in the workshops.

4.30pm   
Taken back to the museum and presented with certificate and photo to be sent after the experience day. Chance to look in The Tank Museum shop.  

Please Note

Please note this experience is hands on, expect to get dirty. Coveralls will be provided, though please wear suitable clothing underneath and steel toe cap shoes. The Tank Museum will provide coveralls and PPE.

Participant Requirements:

Must have mechanical knowledge - Please contact the Museum if you are unsure as to whether your skills are sufficient for this experience.

Must be able to climb on vehicles unaided.

Fit and able to enter the vehicle through a cramped hatchway

Has no allergy to oil, grease, fuel vapour, antifreeze odour.

Is not afraid of heights (a lot of standing on the vehicle)

This experience is not suitable for people who are claustrophobic

No cameras allowed on or inside the vehicle. Any photos taken on the day, are for personal use only.
