James Stanley Bridger

Tpr. James Stanley Bridger, 7930367 - Westminster Dragoons and H.Q. 22nd Armoured Brigade

Born 6th December 1905
Enlisted 3rd January1941 at Blackdown. Initially joining the Westminster Dragoons but then transferred to HQ 22nd Armoured Brigade with a cap badge of the Royal Tank Regiment. Trained in Whitby/Scarborough and Bovington on his beloved tanks, which he thoroughly enjoyed. (He wrote home requesting a pair of wellington boots be sent to him as it was muddy.)

Then posted overseas and fought in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Returned to the U.K. on board the H.M.T. Cameronia, sailing during December 1943 and landed 5th January 1944 in Glasgow. (See 1944 diary) Then travelled by train to Swaffham.

He arrived home on leave 10th January 1944 much to the surprise of the family.

He then went to Normandy, sailing from Tilbury Docks, and fought through France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany. Taking part in the British Victory Parade in Berlin on 21st July 1945.

Died 11th March 1987, aged, 81 years.
