Tales of valour

Distinguished Conduct Medal

For conspicuous gallantry. During the attack at Ypres, between St. Julien and Frezenberg, on August 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 1917. When tank F41 became ditched in advance of our infantry and completely isolated and surrounded by the enemy, he very ably assisted his officers to fight the tank until the night of the 24th. He was twice wounded on the 22nd, but, with the remainder of the crew, inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy and held them up to the east of Hill 35.
