A.W.J. Hukins

Alfred William James Hukins, also known as 'Jim'.
Born 21st June 1914 at Southborough in Kent.

He joined the Royal Tank Corps in the early 1930's but leaving again to join the 'City of London' Police as a Constable on 18.11.1937. Resigned 24.06.1939 and returned to serve again in the RAC.

During the war years he progressed from Trooper reaching the rank of Major. After the war he was reduced to the rank of Captain and retuned to the rank of Major by natural progression.

He served 1946-1949 at Bergen Belsen, and 1949-1951 at Hanover. Late 1951- 1954 he served at Catterick in various roles.

Major A.W.J. Hukins, 237960, left the Army in 1956, and his last posting was at York Barracks, Munster (1954-1956)

On leaving the Army in 1956, he started 'civvy street' as an Estate Agent buying his own Agency at Wimborne Minster. Some years later he joined the Civil Service as a 'Defence Land Agent.

He passed away after a short illness in May 1986.
