Served with F Batalion Tank Corps and Tank F41 - Fray Bentos, with whom he was awarded the DCM and Croix de Guerre for action at St. Julien & Frezenberg, 22nd-24th August 1917

Died May 1963

Mentioned in Bryan Perrett's book "Iron Fist" (p164-167).

After the war Gunner Morrey lived in the Warwickshire area and worked as a farm labourer and with his wife had eleven children.

“F” Battalion, Tank Corps

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty between St Julien and Frezenberg, on August 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 1917. When Tank No F 41 became ditched in advance of our infantry and completely isolated and surrounded by the enemy, he very ably assisted his officers to fight the tank until the night of 24th. He was twice wounded on 22nd, but with the remainder of the crew inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy and held them up to the east of Hill 35.
