WALL Gordon Leslie, (Sergeant)

2nd Royal Tank Regiment

On 10th December 1940, this NCO was tank Commander in a Cruiser Squadron engaged in cleaning up the area between road Sidi Barrani - Salum and the sea. In the dust caused by the tank’s tracks and shell fire he found himself on the left flank near the coast. Seeing gun flashes coming from that direction, he directed his tank towards them and charged the gun line, running over, in all, twenty five guns till his tank became bellied on a large gun. He thereupon dismounted and burred over the breech blocks of four more guns with a pick axe. His tank having been hauled off by another tank, he carried on until orders to return. This NCO showed disregard for personal safety throughout.
