Tales of valour

Military Cross

On 20th November at Gabr Taieb El Essem, Captain Ward was commanding the leading Squadron in action against a German Tank Regiment. He attacked with the greatest determination and held his position within 800 yards of a superior enemy until his ammunition was exhausted. During the action, his tank was hit four times and set on fire, his driver being killed. He at once changed tanks and continued to command his Squadron with great personal courage and power of leadership.
