General Service Medal 1962, Radfan bar

Country: United Kingdom

General Service Medal 1962 - 1999

Introduced in 1964 it is common to all three services and is always issued with a bar. Thirteen bars have been authorised (this includes the South Vietnam bar which was only awarded to Australian personnel). This medal has now been superseded by the Operational Service Medal but it is still being awarded for service in Northern Ireland (for which over 130,000 have been issued).

The obverse shows a crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II, the reverse an oak wreath enclosing a crown and the fords 'FOR CAMPAIGN SERVICE'.

The ribbon is deep purple edged with green.
