General Service Medal 1962, South Arabia bar

Country: United Kingdom

General Service Medal 1962 - 2007

Introduced for use by all three services, and always issued with a bar. Thirteen bars have been authorised (this includes the South Vietnam bar which was only awarded to Australian personnel). This medal has now been superseded by the Operational Service Medal but it is still being awarded for service in Northern Ireland (for which over 130,000 have been issued).

The obverse shows a crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II, the reverse an oak wreath enclosing a crown and the words 'FOR CAMPAIGN SERVICE'.

The ribbon is deep purple edged with green.
