Nicholas II Medal for Zeal

Circular silver medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the head of Tsar Nicholas II facing left circumscribed in Cyrylic text [By the Grace of God Nicholas II Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias]; the reverse with a half-wreath of laurel, palm and oak and inscribed in Cyrilic text [for Zeal]. The medal was instituted in December 1801 and was awarded to both military and civilians for meritorious service to the Russian government, in times of war and peace. It was issued in 4 classes - large gold medal, small gold medal, large silver medal and small silver medal.
