Royal Armoured Corps Exhibition

From the 1950's

15th February 2019

On 4th April The Tank Museum will open a new exhibition, Long After the Battle, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Royal Armoured Corps. However, it looks like this isn't the first time Bovington has hosted an RAC exhibition!

1951 RAC exhibitionThis collection of black and white photographs donated by TIDG (Training Innovation Development Group) show that a Royal Armoured Corps Exhibition may have took place on Bovington Camp. The display featured personal equipment, ammunition examples and even a Goliath - probably the same Goliath that was subsequently donated to the Museum!

While the photographs have no dates on the reverse, this does not mean all hope is lost. Those with beady eyes will be able to make out the words “These Tanks are now in Action with the 8th Hussars in Korea” on the sign beside the Centurion Mk 3, which dates this exhibition to 1951.
